Be it known to all faithful Subjects of American Liberty, that on the 27th Day of February, in the Year of our Lord 1776, near Moore’s Creek Bridge in North Carolina, the Friends of Freedom did obtain a signal and most remarkable Victory over the Forces of the Crown. In the gray Light of Morning, certain Highland Loyalists, trusting in the Edge of their Broadswords and the Swiftness of their Charge, advanced boldly upon the Bridge; yet found the same stripped of its Planks and made treacherous to their Footing. Thereupon did our brave Militia pour forth a most resolute Fire, confounding the Enemy and scattering them in great Disorder. Thus were the Designs of Tyranny overthrown in that Province, and the Cause of American Independence strengthened by a Triumph both sudden and decisive.
