Be it known to all faithful Subjects of American Liberty that on the 27th Day of February, in the Year of our Lord 1776, near Moore’s Creek Bridge in North Carolina, the Friends of Freedom achieved a significant victory for American Independence over the Forces of the Crown. In the gray Light of Morning, certain Highland Loyalists, trusting in the Edge of their Broadswords and the Swiftness of their Charge, boldly advanced upon the Bridge; yet found it stripped of its Planks and treacherous to their Footing. Our brave Militia then poured forth a resolute Fire, confounding the Enemy and scattering them in great Disorder. Thus were the Designs of Tyranny overthrown in that Province, and the Cause of American Independence strengthened by a sudden and decisive Triumph. This remarkable event is often celebrated in historical reenactments, as part of the Road To Liberty 250, honoring the spirit of those who fought for freedom.
